FAQ’s
There are so many ABA providers out there, why should we come to Integrity?
At Integrity, we pride ourselves on treating the whole child and the whole family! We are not the largest ABA provider, and we never will be. We like it that way. We maintain a small client base and promise to give those children the best we have to give, supporting their families, and providing the best, most individualized therapy possible.
What is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA, uses the science of learning and motivation to improve socially important behaviors. The core concept is that our environment influences our behavior and there is always a reason to why we do what we do. It is often mislabeled as autism therapy. However, the science of ABA is used in a variety of settings and with a variety of people. ABA today should look natural and fun. Our focus is not on ”changing people” but on promoting optimal environments for change. The use of reinforcement is critical to the process and allows us to make learning fun for your child. It’s important to note that positive reinforcement does not mean “rewards.”
How does ABA work?
Our approach to ABA therapy focuses on the child’s motivation and interests. We utilize a child’s natural motivation and the environment to spark learning opportunities. Therapy is always individualized to the learner and their specific strengths, barriers, and values. This creates meaningful change for each child and family. New skills are developed by breaking goals down into very small parts and utilizing positive reinforcement to encourage growth.
Why use ABA instead of another approach?
ABA is endorsed by the US Surgeon General as an effective treatment for autism. It is a data driven methodology so we can see in real time if what we are doing is working and make changes as needed. It’s our job to figure out how the child and family learns best and to allow collaborative decision making. This individualized approach helps us to create programs that build on a child’s strengths and also use those strengths to develop any weaknesses With every client and family, our main goal is to enable independence and maximize potential in every client and family we serve.
What is your approach to managing challenging behavior?
Our approach focuses on the environment and WHY the child is engaging in these types of problem behaviors. In many instances a problem behavior coincides with a skill deficit such as the inability to communicate or a task is too challenging. With that said, we always ask the question, what should this learner be doing instead of engaging in these problem behaviors and then we teach those replacement skills.. Each child’s BCBA creates an individualized behavior intervention plan (BIP) that focuses on preventing and responding to the behavior. In the event that a child engages in dangerous behavior, we utilize QBS Safety-Care™ to train staff on crisis management, including physical safety and physical management procedures. Integrity even has a Safety Care Trainer™ who trains our team and monitors all procedures. This program provides the skills and competencies necessary to effectively prevent, minimize, and manage challenges with dignity, safety, and the possibility of change.
Why Early Intervention?
We specialize in providing early intervention and work with children from the time they are diagnosed up to age 7. We support current clients past age 7, but we do not accept new clients over the age of 7 at this time. Starting early treatment of children younger than 36 months has been shown to result in positive outcomes
How do I get referred to Integrity?
You can be referred by your child’s primary care physician, neurologist, psychologist, psychiatrist, first steps provider, the school district, or you can come and receive an assessment without any referral at all. Most insurance companies require a letter of medical necessity to pay for services. Do not worry, we will help you obtain all of the necessary paperwork and guide you through the process.
How much does ABA therapy cost & do you accept Insurance?
Thanks to the Autism Mandate in Indiana, ABA therapy is often covered by your health insurance if your child has a diagnosis of autism. If the plan you have does not cover ABA, we will work with you in finding alternative means of covering the costs associated with ABA therapy. Integrity is an in-network provider for many popular insurance companies including Medicaid, and can provide you with a free insurance check to see if your policy covers ABA which does not obligate you in any way.
Do you diagnose autism?
If your child does not have an autism diagnosis and you believe that your child may have autism, Integrity Learning Center can provide you with a list of diagnosticians. We do not diagnose at our facility.
Do you only work with children with autism?
If your child does not have an autism diagnosis or he/she has another diagnosis such as sensory processing disorder, Integrity Learning Center can provide Pediatric Behavioral Support Services (PBS). These services are less intensive than ABA therapy but can help to provide some support and parent training. These services are not billable to insurance, but we do have affordable private pay options. Please contact us for more information.
Do your therapists and BCBA’s undergo background checks?
Yes! All staff members, regardless of their position with Integrity Learning Center, go through a thorough background check.
How does Scheduling work?
After an assessment is completed, the BCBA will write an individualized treatment plan and recommend the appropriate amount of hours for your child. Integrity Learning Center offers full-time and part-time options and this will be discussed with you before starting. Your child would have 1-2 therapists per day depending on their schedule. Ongoing scheduling communication goes through our scheduling email (schedule@integrityaba.com) or our HIPAA compliant texting app, OhMD.
Will we always have the same therapist?
No, here at Integrity we find it beneficial to your child and their program to rotate therapists every 6-9 months. We understand that this may initially be a concern, but for generalization purposes it is important that your child works with different therapists. It is possible that a therapist transitions more often than every 6-9 months. Some things that may factor into a rotation can include staffing changes, internal promotions or a change in your child’s schedule.
What is a BCBA?
A BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. These individuals are trained in applied behavior analysis and can conduct behavioral assessments and develop behavior analytic interventions to increase adaptive behavior. The BCBA is an independent practitioner and can work in a variety of settings and with a variety of people. BCBA’s must have either a master’s or doctoral degree, over 200 hours of graduate behavior analytic coursework and a minimum of 1,500 supervised hours.
What qualifications do your therapists have in order to implement ABA?
All of our therapists go through training to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) if they do not already have that certification when they start. Our behavioral therapists typically hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field. We are a teaching facility, so we also have Behavioral Therapist Interns. All of our Interns are required to be in at least their junior year of receiving their bachelor’s degree and go through the same training as our Behavioral Therapists.
What training do your therapists receive?
All behavioral therapists and behavioral therapist interns receive intensive initial training in addition to receiving their RBT certification. This individualized training lasts about 2-4 weeks depending on the therapist and includes classroom training, hands on practical experience, and online webinars. All therapists (new and existing) receive training with their specific clients to get to know them before they are independent. Each therapist works closely with the BCBAs who conduct weekly supervision and ensure that they are kept up-to-date on the most current behavioral implementation practices. We also have an in-house training specialist that provides on-going and remedial support. We are always learning!
