Applied Behavior Analysis
What is ABA?
ABA is an acronym used to refer to the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. Applied Behavior Analsys (ABA) is the only treatment method that is endorsed by the US Surgeon General as an effective treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Applied Behavior Analaysis is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree, and to demonstrate that the interventions employed are responsible for the improvement in behavior (Baer, Wolf & Risley, 1968; Sulzer-Azaroff & Mayer, 1991).

These can include but not limited to:
- Social Skills
- Life Skills
ABA methods are used to support persons with developmental disabilities in the following ways:
- To increase and maintain positive behaviors
- To teach new skills
- To generalize behavior from one situation or response to another
- To reduce unwanted behaviors (aggression, self injury)
- To develop and increase social skills
